If only to check out what all the fuss is about, you should reserve one night for cocktails at Centro. Come early for happy hour. This is the ideal night for a romantic evening on Houhai-the bar-packed lake north of the Forbidden City. If you are into jazz and blues, head to the excellent East Shore Live Jazz Cafe. Come before 9pm to get a seat and enjoy the music and some of the best views of the lake, which churns with boats in the summer.SUNDAY
Grabbing a drink in one of Beijing’s hutongs-before they all disappear-is a lovely way to enjoy a city caught between past and future, Try the rooftop deck at the Drum & Bell Cafe over looking its namesake or the bohemian charm of the Pass By Bar in Nanluoguxiang.
